Fun for Everyone!
The Festival Finale on April 6th offers loads to see and do!
Activities for the last day of the Festival kick off early when runners and spectators assemble at the Amphitheatre for the start of the Westlawn Kyogle Fairymount Run and Half Marathon.
As the run unfolds, committee members, volunteers and the Kyogle Shire Council will be preparing the main street for the MJS Smith Group (Festival Platinum sponsor) parade and other activities.
Summerland Way will be closed at the IGA in the north at 12:00pm and traffic detoured via Ettrick and Wyangarie Streets. This will allow the rides and stalls to move in and set up along the main street.
There will be carnival rides for the children commencing at 1:00pm and the street will become a throng of spectators, exhibitors, artists and stall holders.
The main parade will start at 2:00pm. Floats, cars, trucks and marchers will assemble in Groom St before heading down to do 2 laps of Summerland way from the Sawspot in the north to the pool in the south. Businesses, schools, clubs, community and sporting groups are invited to enter the parade – the more the merrier. Visit the Get Involved Page to register y.
Once the parade is over guests will be able to roam the street, browsing through stalls and exhibits and sampling the food available from the Food Fair in Stratheden Street and be entertained by local musicians while the Festival unfolds.
Back in the main street there will be games and competitions aplenty, including the Malcolm Wallis Memorial Egg Toss, the Community Gym Fitness challenge (who’s not good for 100 of their best push ups or a 10 minute plank?).
There will also be a truck pull later in the program. Dave’s Bakehouse will again sponsor the Pie Eating Competition and the whips will be a-cracking through the afternoon. Matt Birds Chainsaw Carving will be back – you will be amazed to see what he does with a piece of wood and a chainsaw. A puppet show will run throughout the afternoon.
Something new to the program this year will be the Thoroughbred Pig Racing - fun filled enjoyment for all ages. Be part of the crowd and join in to cheer your preferred pig through the obstacles on to the end. The proceedings will draw to a close with more music and bands playing through until late, courtesy of the Commercial Hotel.
There is so much to see and do. Come for a day or take a little longer to join in some of the celebrations and tour the district visiting attractions such as the the Border Ranges. The people of Kyogle and the Festival look forward to welcoming you!
